This community garden memorializes a neighborhood hero Mary L. Howard. The board of the 49/63 Neighborhood Coalition has the land trust for the lot at 1217 E 61st St. We use this space to gather community members to plant vegetables and flowers. This garden creates a healthy environment and brings together the neighborhood residents to establish positive relationships within the community. Ongoing activities include garden clean up days, planting, and maintenance.
Project Living Proof is a 100-year old home that has been transformed and renovated to showcase the latest in energy efficient and renewable energy technology including solar panels and geothermal heating. The home hosts tours, academic lectures on sustainability, art gallery openings, etc. Our goal is to expand this unique property into a center for educating Kansas City residents on the connections between energy efficiency, air quality, health, and economic development.
If you are interested in getting involved in the 49/63 neighborhood coalition, want to learn about goings on in the community, or just want to get out of the house and talk with your neighbors then stop by!
