The Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council celebrated the ground breaking for the first 3 (of 7) duplexes to be constructed on the 3800 Block of Euclid. The development is located at the former Horace Mann School. The three models – The Hayden, The Dockery and The Tolbert – were selected to honor three dedicated members of the neighborhood organization.
Since 2009, seven vacant homes have been rehabilitated, six of them in the urban core of Kansas City and one in western Independence. The Constructing Futures LLC program is seen as a “win-win-win” situation for the individuals who obtain on-the job skills training, the families who receive a home in which to live and the residents of a neighborhood, who no longer have to live near a vacant house, which can often be a haven for crime and illegal drug activity.
This project is focused on the strategic rehabilitation and development of new energy efficient homes.
