57th Street Pocket Park

The Blue Hills Neighborhood Association will build on its successful Blue Hills Beautiful program that encouraged neighbors and neighborhood association members to work to clean up the streets and sidewalks. In addition, in 2020, we plan to install a pocket park at 57th Street, between Euclid and Michigan, and for the time being, we’re calling it the 57th Street Pocket Park.

Prospect Community Garden

The mission of Kansas City Community Gardens is to assist low-income households and community groups in the Kansas City Metropolitan area to produce vegetables and fruit from garden plots located in backyards, vacant lots, and at community sites.

Community Emergency Response Team

Thirteen Blue Hills residents and stakeholders each completed 24 hours of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training provided by the Emergency Management Department of the City of Kansas City, MO.

Block Contact

Block Contacts serve as the eyes and ears of the Blue Hills neighborhood. They serve as a point of contact for people requesting information about the neighborhood, and help spread information about events and other goings on.

The efforts of our Block Contacts help to grow our sense of community, which in turn reduces crime, and enhances the overall quality of life, all through neighbors knowing neighbors.

Blue Hills Community Garden

A new community garden has been built in the Blue Hills neighborhood! It features fifteen raised beds, and it can be found at 49th and Olive. Managed by Leigh Blumenthal (of Blue Hills Community Services) and Blue Hills Neighborhood volunteers. All produce goes to residents for free. Volunteers will be given priority when it comes to harvesting.

Blue Hills Real Estate Meetings

Every month the Blue Hills Neighborhood Association Real Estate Committee meets to discuss and take action on issues related to real estate in the neighborhood. Currently we are seeking titles to vacant properties using data from the Land Bank and Legal Aid of Western Missouri. In the past we have been successful with our 55th street corridor from Prospect Avenue to the Paseo Boulevard.

Blue Hills Neighborhood Outreach & Recruitment Walk-a-Thon

Blue Hills residents and neighborhood leaders held a one-day walk-a-thon. Participants went door-to-door recruiting block captains, talking to residents, and distributing association newsletters.

Blue Hills and Luv Does Matter 55th Redevelopment

The Blue Hills Neighborhood Association and Luv Does Matter Resource and Development Center are coming together to to address housing issues along 55th street. We will work towards rehabilitating and redeveloping damaged, dangerous, and vacant houses on the 55th corridor.
