Scarritt Renaissance Beautification 2015

Our beautification project improved the neighborhood as a whole and the neighborhood-owned vacant lot located at a prominent intersection in the area. For neighborhood-wide efforts, supplies for trash and graffiti removal were purchased and volunteers led block and alley cleanups. A rock retaining wall was installed on the vacant lot and more landscape and garden work is planned. SRNA was notified that the lot does not have water (KC Water Services removed the connection to the main without notifying the owner) and is working to get it re-established before installing plants.

Nature-Inspired Playground

With the help of the Community Capital Fund, the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association is creating a nature-inspired playground that speaks to the natural setting of Kessler Park and is respectful to the Historic Northeast neighborhood. This playground will serve as the area's only public playground and will also be a resource to the many people that visit the nearby Kansas City Museum and Scenic Byway Cliff Drive.

Beautification of former Land Bank lot

The Scarritt neighborhood association bought a lot and made some improvements. We met with KCMO Parks and Rec to get assistance. Neighbors were asked to volunteer to kill weeds, prep soil and plant landscaping materials. We fundraised for additional landscaping (we have a little money to begin) and rocks for paths and benches.
