Youth and Community Leadership Engagement

This project will establish two community gardens to help bring together the community, students, teachers, and the LINC afterschool program. Will have membership with Kansas City Community Gardens.

Youth in Community

Neighborhood youth were trained to become more engaged in the neighborhood. Working with senior block captains, youth performed door-to-door canvassing and helped with the creation of block plans.

Restoration & Outreach through Learning & Leadership

ROLL was an outreach and resident-organizing project to inform, manage, and coordinate neighborhood information and education, work with residents at the block-level, and bring people into the community center-to facilitate people knowing and understanding the positive progress that can be realized through a strong neighborhood association. TFCNA hired a part-time community organizer to recruit block captains and also funded two street teams. ROLL also helped create the new TFCNA office in the Mary L. Kelly Center.

The Youth Leadership Cohort (YLC)

The Youth Leadership Cohort (YLC) seeks to identify high school students from Kansas City's urban core and immerse them in a leadership development curriculum. Students will be trained in the principles of community organizing, leadership, policy and civic engagement. The goal of the program is to help students understand the importance of active citizenship while equipping them with the necessary tools to engage their local communities and schools to address systemic change issues.

Youth Development/Training

The youth development training evolved from a team selected to attend the NeighborWorks Community Leadership Institute. We are currently working with representatives from 7 different community groups.

Mary L. Kelly Center

The Mary Kelly Center is in the heart of the Town Fork Creek neighborhood and serves both Town Fork Creek and Blue Hills residents. The facility includes a computer lab, a cafe, a conference room, a regulation size gym, a fitness room, a state of the art dance studio and The Charlie Parker Foundation dedicated to the history of Jazz in Kansas City. Because we never want finances to be a barrier to better health, which is our goal, the is no fee for any of our programs or services
