Rosedale Development Assoc., the UG, and KU are working with neighborhood groups, schools, and residents to update the Rosedale Master Plan (a community land use plan). We are sending out 6200 resident surveys at the beginning of March to help gather baseline data and determine community priorities. We are also looking at remaining barriers to health in the area and evaluating our previous work done in public health since 2009.
The master plan is a community driven plan. As redevelopment occurs, the plan is used as a guide for integrating physical improvements as they are proposed to address a community vision and guideline standard.
Since the Spring of 2013, RDA has worked with hundreds of volunteers and community members to develop nature trails in the park land near the Rosedale Arch. The Rosarks Nature Trail System combines nature and ADA trail network to promote active living and healthy lifestyles.
Children in the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas, participate in multiple sports throughout the year, with the help of volunteer coaches from the community. We provide this sports programming in order to improve the health of elementary school children in our area, while also helping educate parents on how nutrition and physical activity can help set their children up for success.
The Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas is a known recreation desert with high rates of childhood obesity. By getting more sidewalks to more children and families, we hope to make Rosedale a healthier place for all who live, work, and play here.
